Weekend Recap: Walk to End Alzheimer's

I am excited to share a few updates from us at Mirus Planning ~

What a weekend! We concluded our 8th year of supporting the Alzheimer's Association® by participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's® at Seattle Center. Our team, Mirus Cares, was comprised of about 10 walkers this year, and on Saturday, the sunny October weather could not have been better for our walk throughout lower Queen Anne. Thank you to all who made donations, participated with us in the Walk, or supported by Walking from Home! Year to date, Team Mirus Cares has raised $11,590, and over the past 8 years, we’ve raised almost $90,000 to help the Alzheimer's Association® provide care and support to those facing Alzheimer's and all other dementia, and advance critical research.

There has been amazing progress toward prevention, detection, and treatment of the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease. The p-tau217 blood test was found to be highly indicative of a present diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, with an accuracy range between 89% and 98%. Scientists believe it may also be able to predict the likelihood of Alzheimer’s up to 20 years before symptoms occur.

Additionally, initial clinical trial results were announced for a drug called lecanamab which was tested in individuals living with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) due to Alzheimer’s disease and mild Alzheimer’s dementia. Results from the clinical trial found that this treatment significantly reduces clinical decline from the disease.

These are the most encouraging results in clinical trials treating the underlying causes of Alzheimer’s to date. This could give people more time at or near their full abilities to participate in daily life, remain independent and make future health care decisions.

We have never been more hopeful for making the end of Alzheimer’s disease a reality, and we hope you share our excitement!

Our team page is still open for donations to this cause: 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer's - Team Mirus Cares

Best regards,

Maily Wirks
